Faculty EHS committee
The committee shall consist of:
- The Dean of Faculty or nominee (Chair, and Faculty EHS Coordinator);
- EHS coordinators from the designated work groups (All Departments, Biology Laboratory, Faculty Office).
The minimum attendance for a quorum is four members of the Committee, of which one must be the Dean or
nominee.
The Committee reports to the Faculty of Science Finance and Facilities Committee
The Committee will meet at least four (4) times per year.
The Agenda for each meeting shall include:
- Welcome, Attendance and Apologies;
- Starring of additional items;
- Minutes of previous meeting;
- Matters arising from the minutes;
- Report from the Chair;
- Information from Science departments:
- Minutes received from departmental EHS committees
- Note and record minutes of meetings received on the Meetings Checklist
- Issues/actions arising
- Discuss and relevant issues arising from departmental meeting minutes
- SafetyMap/Environment Management System
- Action Plan
- Management Plan
- Progress on existing Objectives and Targets
- New Objectives and Targets (University O&T, Faculty O&T)
- Training needs analysis
- Deans and heads have current roles and responsibility training
- Other training is identified and implemented

The minutes shall be circulated to Faculty of Science Finance and Facilities Committee, Faculty
of Science Departments, Biology Laboratory, Risk Management Office, and made available to all staff
via the faculty of Science EHS web site.
Terms of Reference for Faculty and Department EHS Committees
- To facilitate co-operation between an employer and the employees of the employer in instigating, developing
and carrying out measures designed to ensure the health and safety at work of the employees.
- To formulate, review and disseminate to employees the standards, rules and procedures relating to health and
safety which are carried out or complied with at the workplace.
- To improve the occupational health and safety of staff who work in the Department. The committee will review
and implement any departmental occupational health and safety issues.
- To examine reports and information relating to occupational health and safety ramifications including incident
reports, risk analyses, safety audits, etc.
- To receive reports from managers or supervisors to the effect that regular inspections of the work place are
carried out and that reports on these inspections are discussed and acted upon as necessary.
- To assist in the planning and evaluation of proposed changes in the work environment or in work practices,
which may have implications for the health and safety of staff.
- To investigate incidents which are reported each year in Departments with a view to substantially reduce the
number and severity of these incidents.
- To liaise as necessary with the University's Occupational Health and Safety Committee and officers from the
Risk Management Office in achieving its objectives.
