Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace (EOWW)

The 'Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace' committee advises the Faculty on all aspects of equal opportunity, drawing on issues raised by the University Equal Opportunity Unit and by the committee members, staff and students of the Faculty of Science. Thus, we welcome input from all members of the Faculty of Science. Membership of the EOWW Committee consists of the Assistant Dean (EOWW) (in the chair), the Dean, and representatives of academic, research and professional staff.

We aim to make the Faculty of Science an employer of choice for women through increasing equality of opportunity by developing and growing the careers of women. We have implemented plans based on data derived from Faculty EOWW surveys of academic and professional staff. We ensure that there is effective compliance for all Human Resource procedures that relate to equal opportunity. In short, we value a committed and supportive workplace that is realised by ensuring equity in all policies and practices relating to students and staff.

Women Early Career Researchers Network Events

Women as successful scientists and mentors
Dr Uta Will and Dr Renee Smart

  • Time: 1-2pm
  • Date: Thursday 11 June
  • Location: Conference Room, Level 7, David Caro (Physics) Building

This event is part of a series run by the Faculty of Science to support women early career researchers, whether teaching and research or research only, in the Faculty. The presentation will begin about 1:15pm and, with questions and discussion, will last for about 30 minutes leaving time for networking with other academic women in the Faculty.

The presentation will build on some of the ideas outlined in Renee Smart's interview with Uta Wille that appeared recently in Science Matters. Renee (Community Awareness Programme Manager, ARC Centre of Excellence for Free Radical Chemistry and Biotechnology) and Uta (Senior Lecturer in the School of Chemistry) will discuss the place that mentoring has played in developing their careers and their own roles as mentors.

The Faculty will provide a sandwich lunch. Please RSVP to Rebecca Ni by 9 June to assist with catering.

All women academic staff (particularly Level A and B) welcome.
