Course planning for 2008

This section of the Faculty of Science website has been developed to help you with planning the future of your continuing degree in a time of transition at the University of Melbourne. As the University moves to a new system of undergraduate degrees over the next few years, course planning will become increasingly important.

Course planning involves being aware of changes to subjects and courses that are being planned and if necessary, knowing how and where to find answers and ask for help.

Changes to subjects

From 2008 a suite of new degrees is being introduced as part of the Melbourne Model and in response, new subjects are being created, some existing subjects will continue, others will be updated and improved and some will be phased out.

For detailed course planning information and spreadsheets detailing the future of individual subjects by Department / Study areas, view General advice by departments/study areas.

The Course and Subject Catalogue - changes to the Handbook

Alongside changes to the curriculum in the coming years, the University has developed a new form of handbook called the Course and Subject Catalogue (CSC).The CSC will provide a comprehensive listing of all subjects and courses offered at the University including both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. While it is anticipated that the new Course and Subject Catalogue will have certain advantages, it will no longer contain the sort of course planning advice that has previously been available in the Undergraduate Handbook.

In response to these changes for 2008, the Faculty is providing the course planning information previously available in the Undergraduate Handbook (updated to reflect any changes being introduced in 2008) along with a comprehensive spreadsheet in each department or subject area detailing the plans for each subject offered up to and including 2011.
