The Faculty of Science hosted over 200 high school students in January and February 2009, as part of the country-wide Siemens Science Experience and National Youth Science Forum.
Siemens Science Experience
The Siemens event involved 140 year 10 students attending 3 days of workshops, lectures and field trips across Science, Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, Land and Environment and Veterinary Science. Students were hosted by 25 Youth Science Ambassadors volunteers, university students studying Arts, Music and Science, many of whom had taken the course themselves.
Highlights included a visit to the Werribee animal clinic and Burnley's heritage listed gardens, the physics laser show and the egg drop competition. One of many participants commented "The thing I like most was the atmosphere, the people... it was really fun!"

National Youth Science Forum
On February 27th, 90 year 12 students from all over Australia visited the University as part of National Youth Science Forum, exploring areas such as marine biology, interaction design and analysis, and assessing the heart's blood pressure. Students had previously spent two weeks discovering cutting edge science and technology, with further activities planned, including a cruise and research tours.
Further information
In both events, students made friends from all over Australia, while discovering the University of Melbourne possibilities in science and technology for study and career opportunities.
