Changing classes
After students attend a faculty welcome session, you have until the end of the second week of semester to change your subjects.
Before you arrive, subjects will be pre-approved for you. Given that many students' academic requirements may have changed since you submitted your application, you can add or remove your subjects quite easily. There is no limit to the changes you make but please be aware there is a deadline.
Subjects that have not been pre-approved
For subjects that have not been pre-approved prior to arrival, you will need to obtain written permission from the respective coordinator of that subject. The Science Student Centre has coordinator approval forms; copies are given to you in your pack at the welcome session. To find out who the subject coordinator is, you can look at the Handbook's subject description, then visit the coordinator in the respective department. We recommend Study Abroad/Exchange students introduce themselves to their coordinator when classes start, so this is a good way to meet the academic staff! You can then find out more information regarding that subject, for example, more details about the content and practical class details.
After you obtain the written permission from the coordinator, you should either see a Faculty of Science adviser, or attend a Faculty subject change day (dates will be listed on the science webpage; a list will also be included in your welcome pack). The changing of subjects does not take very long, and you will receive an enrolment record as written confirmation that you are enrolled in that class.
Please note:
- The University's online Subject Change system does not function for Study Abroad/Exchange students, so visit the Science Student Centre in person to change your subjects rather than use this system.
- Telling your lecturer that you no longer wish to be in that class is not adequate; you need to ensure that you have made this change at the Science Student Centre/Subject Change Day, as there are deadlines for doing so each semester.
